Passport costs to rise

Check your passports say airflights.co.uk.
It reported that the government is increasing the cost of a passport From September 3rd 2009, prices rise to £77.50 (up from £72) for an adult and £49 for a child (up from £46).
The Passport Service claims that it has to maintain security and a professional service. It also claims that it is the first rise since October 2007.
However three years ago, a new passport cost £51. And the year before that, £42. So over four years, the cost has risen from £42 to £77.50 - a rise in the region of 85 per cent. So the message from airflights.co.uk is get a passport now before the cost increases. Many destinations such as Turkey and Egypt require you to have six months remaining on your passport at the end of your intended stay so we are advising holiday makers to check their passport and consider whether its appropriate to renew their passport now.
